Gunk 04:35
Bliss out, you’re a free fall, daydream queen, couldn’t be And you and I were not much, never nothing, it’s hard to describe So single me out for all that you adore, and isn’t it sweet I’m drifting uncertain what you were meant to mean to me In the gunk, there’s brain dead but decent fun Till your embers and make sisters of those years I go diving into pools of dead desire What could I be but your heaviness? Back in my need, fully complete, how have you been? Washed out in your better days, thin and faint and free of pain And maybe all your suffering wasn’t for nothing, despite how it aches Bathe it in cold light, all you’d kept to agonize And wake up the same as all you thought you’d left behind And I sunk, slow at first then all at once In the boredom of my dead selves’ bedroom eyes Keep it close, swaddled in your last night’s clothes What could I find but what numbs the best? Back in my need, fully complete, how have you been?
2.
Come in friend, it’s waiting for you inside The vast heart of a continent realized Heat, light, flash inside of… Soul in me is safer in you, you know Where fragile things are allowed to grow Heat, light shot inside of... Come in, friend So I can to adore you again I can’t speak, could never endure the end Heat, light, flash, soft, and secret I’ve grown sure that everything comes to sync To the metronome inside my ribs Heat, light, flash, inside desire Hey, will you ever reward this need? Hey, am I only obliged to be? Heat, light, flash, inside desire Hey, is there a mother behind my eyes? Hey, is my breathing same as the tides? Heat, light, flash inside desire Savor, savoring Nothing felt this clean Heat, light, flash, inside desire Deeply something to me Are you listening? Heat, light, flash, inside desire Are you coming around these days? Can I give you myself to replace? Will you ever adore me again? I’m going up steep, my friend It’s already here, it’s already here, already It’s already here, it’s already here, already Heat, light, flash, inside desire It’s already here, it’s already here, already I dreamt myself together Unfamiliar forevers Iron goddess of mercy Then something outside woke me
3.
Tangled 04:06
Hey! I’m already here Just like it was always promised And are we out in the clear? And can I let my guard down? It all looks the same Tangles of alleys and motorways Before they all fell away How will we still wander ‘round them? I like it just fine A little time out of my mind And I wanna be clear That I adore you being near We live in a dream Nothing’s up here but trees No will to be seen I just dissolve in you a while Our Lady of Sighs Does it matter if it rhymes? Does it move you inside? Do you feel it alright? So keep inside Your long goodbyes We’ll say them twice Hey Spit your silver spoons I wanna talk to you Something new to lose, underneath the avenues I could be your riot We’ll leave them all behind Waiting for you in the place you left your name behind Drifting out from me Wherever sorrow leads Sleep under the leaves, forgotten in your place for me Try to feel the pain Opal and sedate Turn to marble waiting for you to visit again Out of everything that’s true I’m only happening for you How’s anyone not destroyed? From only momentary joy So now I’m swaddled again In the vacant and pretend But I just have to be pure In touching and yearning and dawning and asking for a light

I never drowned myself in honey Now who could love me? And now I will die ordinary Now who could love me? Nestled in a sleeping sickness Now who could love me? I’ll never really know what’s in us Now who could love me? Now my poet’s blood has run dry Tell me who could love me, tell me who could love me Dull enough he wouldn’t ask why Tell me who could love me, tell me who could love me Choking on what liberates you Tell me who could love me, tell me who could love me Forever yours in indiscretion Now who could love me? I keep myself like orphaned secrets who wander home when they get out And even by my own admission my condition blares but never resounds If there’s nothing more to be then may I simply do no more harm A catalogue of obscure sorrows Now who could love me? Now my poet’s blood has run dry Tell me who could love me, tell me who could love me Dull enough he wouldn’t ask why Tell me who could love me, tell me who could love me Choking on what liberates you Tell me who could love me, tell me who could love me Forever yours in indiscretion Now who could? Hard as your heart in afterbloom Why did it die away so soon? And now the feeling’s all flamed out I’ll die forgotten Wrapped in the feathers of stranger days Do lions still lurk out in wait? In here I exist dutifully But now I’m no one

Harder than you try Better seen than sewn inside Pick a pocket, fallen soul Solar in to yourself Solar in, you’re safe tonight

about

Bow & Spear was transforming before we started recording Way Vivid. The years following the release of Bad at Fun was marked by broken bones, broken hearts, a thousand moves and relocations, and changing lineups. Then the pandemic hit and ground a band whose footing was already uncertain to a total halt. What was left of Bow & Spear went into hibernation in Spring of 2020.

The core members of the band met in Palmer Square Park late in the summer of 2020 to talk about the future of the band. There was too much uncertainty to go back into the studio, but we had too many songs that we loved too dearly not to record them. We decided to buy a bunch of recording gear and got to work on our own while making a conventional record was impossible, arduously recording and recording every element of every song in isolation from the music scene until they were just right. We relearned everything we knew about recording music from scratch and figured out how to capture sounds we never could before in the process. This EP is the culmination of that; a true product of how the pandemic impacted our lives, as well and something we made because we just had to.

The songs that appear on Way Vivid were recorded along with many more that will comprise a full length record, so keep your eyes peeled in 2023. There's lots more coming.
